Reasons For Going On A Raw Food Diet
|
Reasons for Raw Food Eating Before switching to a raw food diet, it is important that one consults a doctor and understands the benefits and disadvantages of a raw food diet. Only on the consultation of one’s doctor should one change to a raw food diet. There are several reasons why some people switch to a raw food diet. Some of them are as follows: 1. Since raw food lacks trans fat, it lowers the risk of heart diseases and thereby improves health. 2. Switching to a raw food diet can cause considerable weight loss. 3. As raw food contains more fibers, a raw food diet improves digestion. 4. Raw food has low fat and oil content. Low food and oil intake also improves the health of the skin. 5. Some individuals have been found to have increased energy levels after switching to a raw food diet. It has been found out that sometimes freezing, processing and cooking food destroys vitamins and essential minerals and makes the food difficult to digest. It has been found out that sometimes partially digested fats, carbohydrates and proteins block the arteries and cause cholesterol if there is too much HDL. However, fat is also vital for the nervous system and that fat can be got through several means. Undigested carbohydrates and proteins pass through the body. If they are digested yet unused, they are converted into energy as fat tissues. Raw food causes weight loss generally as those on a raw food diet will seldom eat more calories than they need. Therefore, there are no extra proteins and carbohydrates which are converted into fat. Those on a raw food diet say that eating raw food helps as raw food contains enzymes which act as catalysts during digestion and processing the food by freezing or cooking destroys these enzymes. Raw food also contains bacteria which help in the digestion process. Raw food is considered less toxic (though raw food also contains several worms which can be harmful and therefore it is important that one finds out from a doctor which food items can be consumed raw) and sometimes even easier to digest. Cooking sometimes kills vitamins and minerals and so raw food is thought to be richer in vitamins and minerals than processed, frozen or cooked food. Those on a raw food diet also eat organic foods which have not been affected by pesticides and are therefore better for both the environment and the consumer. |
