A raw food diet is one where the food is consumed raw and uncooked so as not to lose out on any of the vital vitamins and minerals it has to offer which are often lost while heating food over and above a certain temperature.

However, as mentioned earlier, a raw food diet may not be suitable to everyone. Such a diet also lacks in some very important nutrients such as protein, iron, and calcium. Also some other nutrients not present or present in lesser quantities in raw foods such as vitamin B12, zinc, copper, and chromium need to be supplemented while on a raw food diet.

Therefore, such a diet cannot be seen as an ideal solution to all health and addiction problems. Following is a list of people or groups for whom such a diet can never be prescribed.

• Children – at a growing stage raw food diet cannot be imposed. • Pregnant women – they require special nourishing and any deficiency can prove fatal for the foetus. • Osteoporosis and Anemic patients – they require additional iron and other nutrients that raw foods cannot provide.
